Saudi Arabia signs $10 million Financial Memorandum to solve Safer oil tanker crisis
Saudi Arabia:
Saudi Arabia signed a $10 Financial Memorandum to solve the Safer oil tanker
crisis, currently anchored off the Yemeni coast, SPA reported on Sunday.
The kingdoms royal court adviser and General
Supervisor of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian
Action, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Rabiah, signed the agreement with the UN
Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Gressly, in New York City, on the
sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The two officials also discussed the humanitarian
and relief efforts in Yemen, and ways to confront the humanitarian, economic and
environmental threats of the Safer oil tanker.
Rabiah explained that the Kingdom’s contribution
comes as an extension of its efforts to save the Safer tanker and to support
international efforts to prevent any potential disasters that may result from
it.
It contains more than one million barrels of oil
and has not been maintained since 2015.
