Saudi Arabia:
The Saudi Shoura Council, held with its Speaker Dr. Abdullah Al-Asheikh in the
chair, on Tuesday approved a draft system to combat begging. The draft was
approved following deliberations on a report submitted by the Shoura Council’s
Social, Family and Youth Affairs Committee.
The draft contained 10 articles addressing methods to curb begging. It also
proposed a mechanism to help in the rehabilitation of people engaged in the
activity with the assistance of government and charitable organizations. It also
called for penalties to ensure its elimination from society.
