Teachers, administrative staff to return to Bahrain schools on Sunday

Bahrain:

Bahrain has said that teaching and administrative staff will return to public schools on Sunday in the run-up to the new academic year.

Last month, Bahraini authorities postponed the start of the new school year to allow COVID-19 testing for teaching and administrative staff due to an uptick in infection rates in the kingdom.

The Education Ministry said that 1 per cent of the staff members had not responded to the call to do testing and that they would not return on Sunday.

“Special procedures will be taken with those who did not respond to the ministry’s call according to stipulations in the civil service regulations and laws,” the ministry said without elaborating, according to the Bahraini news agency BNA.

School administrations will be in touch with teachers to specify their schedules for alternate school attendance.

Public schools are to reopen for the new academic year on October 11 when distance learning will be adopted for two weeks for all students, including those who have opted for an education system blending class attendance and remote learning, the ministry said.

Students wishing to attend classes will be allowed to come to schools as of October 25, it added.

Students in Bahrain’s public schools were originally scheduled to begin the new school year on September 16.
