120 judges and prosecutors to return to Kuwait from Egypt

Kuwait:

The Ministry of Justice and the General Administration of Civil Aviation (GACA) are working together to facilitate the return of 120 judges, advisors and prosecutors from Egypt, Al Jarida reported.

A source told Al Jardia that their return is imminent and that the judicial season cannot start next month without their return.

In addition, the source added that the court intends to increase the number of judicial departments in the new season to address the problem of the accumulation of appeals, as the number exceeds 32,000.

Majority of the expats that work in the Ministry of Justice are Egyptians, as Kuwait’s legal system follows the ‘civil law system’ the same system used in Egypt.

Egyptians make up the second largest expat community, as there are a total of 517,973 Egyptians residing in Kuwait.

Travel ban

Like most expats, the 120 judges, advisors and prosecutors have been affected by the travel ban imposed on Kuwait back on August 1.

Although the Kuwait International Airport resumed service on August 1, the government has banned travelers arriving from 32 countries, one of which is Egypt, from entering Kuwait.

State media has mentioned that the banning of flights does not affect nationality, rather it is based on if a person traveled or visited a ‘high risk’ country.
