The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) wants people to make more use of the
Internet, after having recently announced the eWallet service that offers
companies and corporate customers online payment methods for processing their
transactions.
The RTA said in a press release that
the service would be safe and easy-to-use, applying primarily to the renewal of
vehicle registration, and the payment of traffic fines. The new service will be
operational by next June.
RTA chairman Mattar Al Tayer said:
“The initiatives and activities undertaken by the RTA in offering online
services have had an immense impact on streamlining and easing the customers’
service experience.
“Through launching the eWallet
service, companies will no longer need to dispatch representatives to RTA
centres to process routine transactions, since all services required will be
available online and accessible at all times. Moreover, the provision of an
option for cash payment will diminish the risks of losing cash amounts and
eliminate the potential of fraudulent processes,” he continued.
“Over the next few months, the RTA
will also launch a self-service device that validates the identity of the
customer by matching the ID card with the finger prints, along with the eGate,”
he said.
